senāsanaṁ paññapeti—\n“ayaṁ mañco, idaṁ pīṭhaṁ, ayaṁ bhisi, idaṁ bibbohanaṁ, idaṁ vaccaṭṭhānaṁ, idaṁ passāvaṭṭhānaṁ, idaṁ pānīyaṁ, idaṁ paribhojanīyaṁ, ayaṁ kattaradaṇḍo,\nidaṁ saṅghassa katikasaṇṭhānaṁ, imaṁ kālaṁ pavisitabbaṁ, imaṁ kālaṁ nikkhamitabban”ti.\nTesaṁ āyasmā dabbo mallaputto evaṁ senāsanaṁ paññapetvā punadeva veḷuvanaṁ paccāgacchati.","en":"Dabba assigned dwellings to the monks according to their character.\nHe assigned dwellings in the same place to those monks who were experts on the discourses, thinking,\n“They’ll recite the discourses to one another.”\nAnd he did likewise for the experts on the Monastic Law, thinking,\n“They’ll discuss the Monastic Law;”\nfor the expounders of the Teaching, thinking,\n“They’ll discuss the Teaching;”\nfor the meditators, thinking,\n“They won’t disturb one another;”\nand for the gossips and the bodybuilders, thinking,\n“In this way even these venerables will be happy.”\nWhen monks arrived at night, he entered the fire element and assigned dwellings with the help of that light.\nMonks even arrived late on purpose,\nhoping to see the marvel of Dabba’s supernormal powers.\nThey would approach Dabba and say,\n“Venerable Dabba, please assign us a dwelling.”\n“Where would you like to stay?”\nThey would intentionally suggest somewhere far away:\n“On the Vulture Peak,”\n“At Robbers’ Cliff,”\n“On Black Rock on the slope of Mount Isigili,”\n“In the Sattapaṇṇi Cave on the slope of Mount Vebhāra,”\n“In Cool Grove on the hill at the Snake’s Pool,”\n“At Gotamaka Gorge,”\n“At Tinduka Gorge,”\n“At Tapoda Gorge,”\n“In Tapoda Park,”\n“In Jīvaka’s Mango Grove,”\n“In the deer park at Maddakucchi.”\nDabba then entered the fire element, and with his finger glowing, he walked in front of those monks.\nThey followed behind him with the help of that light.\nAnd he would assign them dwellings:\n“This is the bed, this the bench, this the mattress, this the pillow, this the place for defecating, this the place for urinating, this the water for drinking, this the water for washing, this the walking stick;\nthese are the Sangha’s agreements concerning the right time to enter and the right time to leave.”\nDabba then returned to the Bamboo
