The Buddha said to him:\n“What do you think, Rāhula?\nIs the eye permanent or impermanent?”\n“Impermanent, sir.”\n“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”\n“Suffering, sir.”\n“But if it’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, is it fit to be regarded thus:\n‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”\n“No, sir.”\n“… the ear …\nthe nose …\nthe tongue …\nthe body …\nIs the mind permanent or impermanent?”\n“Impermanent, sir.”\n“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”\n“Suffering, sir.”\n“But if it’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, is it fit to be regarded thus:\n‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”\n“No, sir.”\n“Seeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with the eye, the ear, the nose, the tongue, the body, and the mind.\nBeing disillusioned, desire fades away. When desire fades away they’re freed.
